People's Poetry Network update

The People's Poetry Network is beginning to take shape.

The twitter account has past it's first 100 followers and the Forum has begun attracting members who have begun posting poems. Updates and improvements are continuing with the Forum, including the addition of an open Guestbook that is accessible to visitors who have not yet registered. This will allow guests to leave comments or ask questions via the Enquiries sub-board.

The main People's Poetry site will be undergoing further development throughout January as more content is added and additional features are also planned for further down the line. At the end of January the Forum will be receiving an upgrade as the host site introduces a new version offering more options and customization. So there is much still to do...

Mission statement

"Publishing a volume of verse is like dropping
a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting
for the echo." - Don Marquis

Although the view of American humourist, journalist and author Donald Marquis seems rather bleak, it is not entirely without truth. It can be difficult to garner any recognition or exposure for works of poetry, even in this interconnected, globalised world with live in. This is where People's Poetry comes in.

The People's Poetry Network - including the main People's Poetry site, this blog, a forum and twitter and facebook pages - are designed to give poets an additional platform to promote themselves and their work. As we grow the network we will actively promote our members, including their published works in our Bookstore and encouraging reviews. The Forum will provide a welcoming and friendly environment in which to discuss the art of poetry and receive constructive criticisms where requested.

As we develop the site and membership grows further resources will be added, including information on publishing and publishers, contests and competitions and upcoming events in the world of poetry. In the future we intend to run our own  competitions for our members and provide publishing services and dedicated Poet Pages.

For now, all our services will be provided for free (although any donations will be gratefully received...) As we expand our network and resource base some premium services may incur one-off payments or subscription charges. Keep an eye on the Announcements page for updates.
